Frequently Asked Questions
Can a landlord evict me at the end of my tenancy?
No, a landlord cannot evict you at the end of your tenancy. However, a landlord can
serve an eviction notice at any time during tenancy. To legally evict a tenant, the landlord must have a valid legal reason—such as intending to sell the property, using it for personal or first-degree relative occupancy, or undertaking major renovations/demolition.
Furthermore, the landlord must provide a 12-month written notice served via a public notary or registered mail. The tenant can remain in the property for the duration of this 12-month notice period (even after the tenancy contract ends).
Note on Property Sales: If the landlord sells the property while you are still renting it, the new owner automatically inherits your existing lease agreement under the same terms and must respect the ongoing tenancy or follow the standard legal process for eviction.
