Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Muslim write a will in the UAE?
Yes, but with limitations. A Muslim can only bequeath up to one-third (1/3) of their estate through a will. This one-third cannot go to existing Sharia heirs, unless all other heirs consent after the testator's death. The remaining two-thirds must follow the fixed Sharia distribution.
Muslim wills can be registered at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) or the Personal Status Court.
