Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my tenancy contract if my landlord dies?

The tenancy contract does not expire on the death of the landlord. Under Article 27 of Law No. 26 of 2007, the contractual relationship continues with the landlord's heirs on the same terms. Equally, if the tenant dies, the contract continues with the tenant's heirs — unless they wish to terminate it, in which case they must give at least 30 days written notice.

This scenario underlines why having a registered UAE will is critical.
